✺ Hello from Australia, my new home ✺
Introducing Longe - sunny and sandy virtual postcards from Sydney.
✺ ✺ ✺ Longe | lon-ji | is the Portuguese word for far away. I couldn’t think of a better word to name this new newsletter* - a collection of beautiful moments captured in the farthest place I’ve ever lived, Sydney. I moved about three months ago from London, and I feel increasingly compelled to share all about this experience with you.
By the time you read this first issue of Longe, all of our belongings will have made their way across the world and landed on our new doorstep in the Eastern Suburbs (finally!). Our gorgeous sideboard - a Gumtree find that once belonged to a theatre set and one of our most prized possessions - would have sailed along the Western coast of France and Spain, traversed the strait of Gibraltar, crossed the Med, and traveled South, navigating the Indian Ocean before reaching the Australian coast and completing its journey all the way to us.
It’s the only piece of furniture we chose to keep, as we had to capitalise on the limited amount of space in our allocated “cube”. Sometimes I reflect back on those moments, and I realise how much stress and doubt they brought with them. I have moved about 7 times in the last decade (cheers to renting in London), but I never experienced anything like that. And, when I made the move from Paris to London in 2014, I was single in my mid-twenties, had vague life plans and didn’t own much so it didn’t feel like a move at all**.
I’ll share more about my recent relocation to Australia, and all the steps it took - mentally and logistically - to make this major life decision happen in future newsletters. If you’re particularly interested in this topic, let me know. Today, I wish to focus on more recent events (furnishing our new home and modelling again), and share some of my latest style and culture picks in the spirit of Longe.
